Drones are becoming increasingly popular for hobbyist, civilian applications or military ones. More and more drones are using Linux variants for their OS. Some are still using RTOS such as VxWorks while others are using combinations of Nuttx (open source version of RTOS) and Linux depending on the real time requirements. Several drones are using Ubuntu with Robot OS extension. They are based on open platforms such as Raspberry Pi, Arduino or BeagleBone Black. Examples of projects are Bebop Drone, Spiri, Gumstix AeroCore MAV, Airware, Draganflyer X8, Paparazzi.
