Imagination Boasts of MIPS-Based Platform for Wearables

Eweek explains how Imagination is providing its MIPS core to Ingenic who designed a tiny SD card sized module called Newton for the IoT wearable segment. The plus of this module is its size: about a one euro coin :-). Another plus is that it is modular. For instance one can decide to add or remove a power management module in order to use the Newton in a plugged in or in a battery powered environment. The market for wearable is expected to be 64 millions units by 2020 according to the analysts from Berg.

Imagination is part of the Android wearable initiative launched by Google. members of the group include ARM, Intel, Qualcomm, Samsung.

And kickstarter did it again: an Android based quadcore device which controls the home automation and is a router. It even connects to Nest, the connected thermostat recently acquired by Google. It embeds an Exynos SoC from Samsung. Actually the hardware platform is probably over-dimensioned for what it actually does. Yet it comes in the form factor of a tablet which means that for once the User Interface is user friendly.

As we could expect from such a sexy product, the pre-orders are higher than what was initially requested.
