802.11ac also called Gigabit Wifi has been implemented but up to now some features were left out. In particular MU-MIMO allowing for multiple users was not in, wasting bandwidth capacity in smartphones. This feature allows several users to use up to 433 Mbps of bandwidth simultaneously over a single access point. The early players are Qualcomm Atheros and Quantenna for chip design. Reference designs are also available and are being used by companies such as Aerohive.
